The simple methods to distinguish between 304 and 201 stainless steel

304 stainless steel material as one of the main steel which is widely used,at present.It is often used in a relatively humid area or directly in contact with water,because of obvious corrosion resistance. Such as Guangdong,Fujian,Zhejiang and other coastal areas.The 201 stainless steel does not advocate the use of wet or coastal areas for a long time,because of the poor corrosion resistance.

201 stainless steel mainly used in relatively dry areas and quality requirements are not high in some decorative areas.However,due to the price of 201 is more lower than the 304's,in reality 201 maybe saled by some opportunistic adverse manufacturers to replaced 304 to obtain high profits.

For example: stainless steel water tank made of 201 stainless steel life is very short,usually 1-2 years can be corrosion by water,it will leaving a security risk to user.

We provide the following three simple methods as a reference for the identification of 304 and 201 stainless steel as following:

1.304 and 201 stainless steel,both the surface are usually sub light. So we identify by the naked eye,hand touch.Naked eye to see 304 stainless steel with a very good shine, hand touch is smooth;201 stainless steel is in dark color not shiny as 304, touch feeling is rough and not smooth.Wet hands touching the two stainless steel plates, the water stains on the fingerprint of 304 is easy to erase,201 is not easy to erase.

2. With a grinder mounted on the grinding wheel grinding two plate gently,201 plate grinding spark is relatively long,thick,and 304 plates,with a short,thin,small spark.

3. Stainless steel pickling cream were applied to two kinds of stainless steel plates.Looking at the color of the stainless steel after two minutes.The colour blackening steel is 201,do not change the colour or turning white is 304 steel.
